PHOTOLYTIC AND RADIOLYTIC DECOMPOSITION OF ETHYLIODIDE IN THE GASEOUS PHASE (in German)

Journal Article · · Z. Physik. Chem. (Frankfurt)
The decomposition of C/sub 2/H/sub 5/I through light absorption and from bombardment with fast electrons was investigated in the gaseous phase. The volatile decomposition products were determined by gas chromatography, and hydrogen and methane were determined by mass spectroscopy. Only the ethylene and ethane formation is considered. The results showed that ethylene is formed in a process in which no radicals participate. In radiolysis ethylene formation is not reduced by radical captors, but in photolysis it was repressed. The probable mechanism for ethane formation was discussed. (J.S.R.)
