Reactivity Measurements with the FRJ-1 Merlin; REAKTIVITATSMESSUNGEN BEIM FRJ-1 MERLIN
Using pulsed source measurements, doubling time and rod fall measurements during the first approach phase of the FRJ-1 (MERLIN) in February and March 1962, the operation of the two safety rods and the control rods in 8 different nuclear configurations with a maximum of 24 fuel elements was tested. For the 4 x 5 and 4 x 6 cores, in addition, the differential reactivity curves of the control rods were measured. Further the reactivity yields in the increase of the reactor core from 4 x 4 to 4 x 6 fuel elements were measured with pulsed sources. From that the excess reactivity of the 4 x 5 core was calculated to be 4.12% 4k/k and that of the 4 x 6 core to be 6.8% DELTA k/k. The reactivity worth of the control rods and safety rod A varied according to the size of the core configuration between 3.04 and 5% DELTA k/k, that of safety rod B between 3.16 and 4.22% DELTA k/k. Together the control rods absorbed 8.4 to 15.8% DELTA k/k. (tr-auth)
