Ionospheric Absorption of Cosmic Radio Noise and Chorus at the Auroral Zone

Journal Article · · Journal of Geomagnetism and Geoelectricity (Tokyo)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.5636/jgg.14.133· OSTI ID:4703762
A close relation between ionospheric absorption of cosmic radio noise and chorus intensity at the auroral zone is found for diurnal variations on geomagnetically quiet days, those on geomagnetically disturbed days, and storm- time variations for periods of no polar-cap absorption from September, 1959 to December, 1960. The relation of the cosmic noise absorption to the chorus and to geomagnetic pulsation at the auroral zone and possible mechanisms of VLF emissions in the outer exosphere are discussed.
