A remotely operable valve, which can be used at temperatures above 100 deg C to give access to the interior of a pressure vessel, is patented. The valve consists of a flap and a valve seat, on which the flap closes and seals. The area of seating contact lies wholly in one plane. The flap is opened and closed by a pivotally mounted hinge arm and drive transmissions, all on the same side of the seat. No operating mechanism passes through the wall containing the valve opening, thereby avoiding the use of sealing glands. Details of the design are described and illustrated. (M.P.G.)
