POTENTIAL FIELD AND FORCE CONSTANTS OF SOME OCTAHEDRAL XY$sub 6$ TYPE MOLECULES

Vibrational analyses for the octahedral XY/sub 6/ type molecules possessing the symmetry point group O/sub h/ are discussed. The construction and orientation of symmetry coordinates, F and G matrices, following the methods outlined by Wilson were clearly deduced. By making use of the redundant symmetry coordinates, a set of force constants was obtained for the molecules SF/sub 6/, SeF/sub 6/, TeF/sub 6/, MoF/sub 6/, WF/sub 6/, UF/sub 6/, NpF/sub 6/, PuF/sub 6/, ReF/sub 6/, OsF/sub 6/, IrF/sub 6/, and PtF/sub 6/.
