A STUDY OF THE PHOTOLUMINESCENCE AND SCINTILLATION PROPERTIES OF SOME 1,3- OXAZOLE DERIVATIVES IN POLYSTYRENE

Photoluminescence and scintillation characteristics were investigated for 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(2-naphthyl)oxazole-1,3; 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(1-naphthyl)- oxazole-1,3; and 1,2-biphenyloxazole derivatives of ethylene and ethane. It was established that the most efficient plastic scintillators are those which use 2- (4-biphenylyl)-5-(2-naphthyl)oxazole-1,3 as the luminor. The effectiveness of scirtillators of this kind is approximates 105% compared to a standard polystyrene calibrating block containing 2% p-terphenyl and 0.06% POPOP. (auth)
