A spark-gap capable of closing readily and almost instantaneously an electric circuit through which a very intense current is to pass has a gap in the shape of a bell (solid of revolution). The external electrode has, at the top of the bell, one or two small trigger electrodes connected to elements for furnishing the appropriate electrical impulse. A double spark-gap using a central electrode common to both spark-gaps and placed between the two external electrodes is also described. (D.C.W.)
