A process with high separation factors is given which consists of the electrolytic decomposition of liquid NH/sub 3/. In this process, an acid electrolyte, e.g., NH/sub 4/Br, is added to the NH/sub 3/, the electrolysis is carried out at low temperatures, and the cathode is made of Fe, Cu, Ni, or alloys of these metals. Two electrolytic cells are described, one for atmospheric pressure and the other for high pressure. Examples of the process are reported in which separation factors of 17 to 28 were found. (D.L.C.)
