PLASMA QUENCHING BY ELECTRONEGATIVE GAS SEEDING

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters

The seeding of supersonic plasma streams with electronegative gases to reduce the system's electron density was investigated. Microwave back-scattering and double probe measurements were made on argon plasma seeded with SF/sub 6/, air, and oxygen. Seeding with SF/sub 6/ reduced the electron density and the positive ion density while air and oxygen seeding, even at much higher rates, produced negligible effects. (D.C.W.)
