Probe diagnosis of a beam-plasma discharge in an electronegative medium

A method is proposed in which one uses the voltage-current characteristics of a single langmuir probe to derive the basic characteristics for the plasma from a heavy electronegative gas: electron temperature, electron concentration, and concentrations of the positive and negative ions. Results are given from applying the method to determining the spatial structure in the plasmas from beam discharges in the electronegative gases SF/sub 6/ and CF/sub 4/.
