DEVELOPMENT OF SEPARATION PROCEDURES FOR RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS. SODIUM, BARIUM, CALCIUM, AND STRONTIUM DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENTS IN A DI-2-ETHYL HEXYL PHOSPHORIC ACID SOLVENT EXTRACTION SYSTEM. Annual Technical Status Report No. 3, April 1, 1961 to March 31, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4701438
The system di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in Amsco 125-82 diluent is evaluated for the separation of the Group II elements barium, strontium, and calcium in the presence of sodium. The system variables investigated are pH, D2EHPA organic phase concentration, ionic concentration of Group II element with varying sodium concentration, and the intereffect of two Group II ions present on extraction characteristics. The range over which the variables are studied are: pH, 0 to 6; D2EHPA concentration, 0,1 to 1.6M; Group II element concentration, 0.003 to 0.2M; and sodium concentration 0.1 to 5M. In the runs made the system response as indicated by the distribution coefficient, aqueous phase molar concentration, and organic phase molar concentration is reported. Correlation of the extraction data is underway utilizing the Burroughs 220 Datatron digital computer. (auth)
