EXTRACTION OF ZIRCONIUM AND HAFNIUM FROM NITRIC AND HYDROCHLORIC ACID SOLUTIONS BY n-TRI-BUTYL PHOSPHATE (in Russian)

Distribution and separation coefficients of Zr and Hf extraction by TBP are studied as functions of the metal concentration relative to the concentration of nitric and hydrochloric acids. The extraction of macroquantities of Zr and Hf from nitric acid and hydrochloric acid and mixed solutions was investigated at Zr concentration to 0.5M and Hf to 0.18M. It was found that with an increased metal concentrations the extraction constants diminish (especially in strong nitric solutions) because of polymerization. Polymerization constants were estimated. Replacement of nitric acid by hydrochloric acid enhances Zr distribution constants to a maximum and for Hf the replacement of nitric acid by hydrochloric depresses the extraction. (R.V.J.)
