MODE AND DEVICE FOR THE DETECTION OF FISSION PRODUCTS CARRIED WITHIN A GAS PHASE

A mode of detecting radioactive fission products carried within a gas phase consists in measuring the quantity of the radioactive daughters electrostatically precipitated from the gas phase onto the free surface of an inactive liquid and in transferring these daughters by the liquid to a counter for measuring their activity. The device for performing this mode of detection comprises an electrode over which continuously flows a film of the inactive liquid; the liquid passes in a channel with a shield separating the precipitation chamber and a scintillation counter before it enters a labyrinthine channel system within the solid phosphor of the scintillation counter.
