ALPHA HALF-LIVES OF Po$sup 216$, At$sup 217$ AND Rn$sup 21$$sup 8$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4699071
Reports of an abnormally fast decay rate for astatine217 and variation of the radon-218 half life from theoretical relations encourage a new measurement of these half lives. Polonium-216 is also examined since its haif life can be used to check the equipment. The method of preparing the samples and the electronic equipment used are described. Data are presented and discussed, and the half life values obtained are compared with other determinations. Values of 0.145 plus or minus 0.002, 0.0323 plus or minus 0.0004, and 0.035 plus or minus 0.001 sec are reported for polonium-216, astatine-217, and radon-218, respectively. (D.C.W.)
