HALF-LIFE DETERMINATION OF $sup 220$Rn

Journal Article · · Radiochimica Acta (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4062411
The half life of /sup 220/Rn was measured by a new technique. Radon atoms were embedded firmly in stainless steel plates by the collection in vacuum of recoiling atoms from a thin source of /sup 224/Ra. The activity on these plates was counted in a proportional counter using a 400-channel analyzer as a multiscaler. The average half life obtained for eleven determinations was 55.3 plus or minus 0.3 seconds. A discussion of some of the errors possible in the various methods of measuring the radon half-life is presented. (auth)
