THE SEPARATION OF $sup 239$Np

A solvent extraction process for the separation of Np/sup 239/ from uranium and its fission products is described. The process is based on the selective extraction of Np(VI) by diethyl ether from nitric acid solutions in the presence of a salting out agent and on the differences in the behavior of Np(VI) and Np(V). The recoil of the fission product nuclei is used to separate Np/sup 239/. The procedure is also applicable to Np/sup 237/, Pu, and U. (C.E.S.)
