A 2 pi -differential recoil study of the Cu/sup 65/(p,pn)Cu/sup 64/ reaction was made to circumvent problems associated with velocity vector diagrams for such reactions. An integral angular distribution study of the reaction was also performed. Kinetic energies obtained for the Cu/sup 64/ nuclei agree well with those expected for an evaporation mechanism (lower kinetic energies) and a knock-on mechanism (higher kinetic energies). As part of a study of the (p,n) reaction mechanism, the excitation functions for the reactions Sc/sup 45/(p,n)Ti/ sup 45/, Ni/sup 64/, (p,n)Cu/sup 64/, Rh/sup 103/, (p, n)Pd/su p 103/, Te/sup 103/ (p,n)I/sup 130/, and W/sup 186/(p,n)Re/sup 186/ were determined. An exponential dependency of the cross sections on target mass is indicated. Integral recoil measurements were made on the Ni/sup 64/(p,n)Cu/sup 64/, Rh/sup 103/(p,n)Pd/sup 103/, and W/sup 186/(p,n)Re/su p 186/ systems. Previously obtained results for the Ni/sup 64/ reaction were found to be erroneous. Good results were obtained by analytical determination of the Ni/sup 64/(p,n)Cu/sup 64/ cross section. Analysis of the (p,n) recoil experiments showed the same reaction to have a forward-backward recoil ratio of about 4: 1; other systems analyzed had ratios as high as 2: 1. The Ni/sup 64/(p,n)Cu/sup 64/ angular distribution was calculated; the results indicate that the (p,n) reaction may be confined to upper neutron levels. Preliminary experiments were made to determine the mass dependence of the formation cross sections for Na/sup 24/. Cross sections for As/sup 75/ (p,pn)As/sup 74/ reactions at 130 to 250 Mev were determined, and the excitation function of the W/sup 186/(p,2p)Ta/sup 185/ reaction was redetermined. The half lives of Y/sup 82/, Y/sup 83/, and Y/sup 85/ were determined to be 12 plus or minus 3 min, 10 plus or minus 2 min, and 2.3 plus or minus 0.2 hr. A literature survey on (N,2N) reactions was initiated. (D.C.W.)
