The cross sections of Ni58(n,p)Co58 and Zn65(n,p)Cu64 reactions are measured by the activation method for neutron energies from 1.8 to 4.8 Mev. The cross sections increase monotonically with neutron energy and at 4.8 Mev their values are 410 plus or minus 60 and 125 plus or minus 25 mb respectively. These results are compared with theoretical calculations performed using an evaporation model with a semi-empirical level density. The experimental values agree with the theoretical ones in the case of Zn64 (n,p)Cu/sup 64/ and within a factor of two in the case of Ni58(n,p)Co58.
