CONCENTRATION OF DESOXYRIBOPOLYNUCLEOTIDES IN RADIOSENSITIVE AND RADIORESISTANT TISSUES AFTER IRRADIATION (in French)

A study was made to determine the relation between the radiosensitivity of a tissue (or the rapidity of its nucleic metabolism) and the liberation of desoxyribopolynucleotides after irradiation. Mice of the H race and Wistar rats were used in the study. They were decapitated four hours after whole-body irradiation with a dose of 600 r. The concentration of the desoxyribopolynucleotides was determined in the spleen, thymus, liver, and kidneys. The results are shown graphically. In order to determine the participation of lymphocytes in the release of desoxyribopolynucleotides, tests were made on mice that received injections of cortisone for seven days before irradiation. The increase in desoxyribopolynucleotides after irradiation in the spleen is much less than in normal mice, whereas in the thymus the increase is insignificant. The increase of the concentration of desoxyribopolynucleotides after irradiation does not occur in all radiosensitive tissues with rapid exchange of DNA. This change occurs only in lymphatic and hematopoietic tissues. (J.S.R.)
