VOLUMETRIC DETERMINATION OF URANIUM AFTER ITS SEPARATION BY TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE EXTRACTION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4694821
Volumetric determination of uranium, down to 0.1 mg of U/sub 3/O/sub 8/, is described for samples containing high amounts of thorium and other interfering elements. Uranium is extracted with 5% tributyl phosphate in kerosene from a 2N- HNO/sub 3/ solution. The organic phase is scrubbed with saturated ammonium nitrate. The uranium is back extracted with ammonium carbonate solution and estimated volumetrically, after reduction in a Jone's reductor, using standard ceric sulphate solution and ferroin as the indicator. The method has been applied for the determination of uranium in a variety of minerals. (auth)
