The distribution of HNO/sub 3/ was studied in extraction into the organic phase saturated with uranyl nitrate from aqueous nitric acid uranium-containing solutions at equilibrium with a solid uranium salt. It was shown that the extraction of HNO/sub 3/ into tributyl phosphate (TBP), completely saturated with uranium, proceeds as the result of its dissolution in a disolvate of uranium with TBP. The process is described in accordance with the Nernst hypothesis, using the concentrations of undissociated HNO/sub 3/. The extraction of HNO/sub 3/ by a monosolvate of HNO/sub 3/ with TBP is described in a similar way. The constants of the characteristic equation are independent of the concentration of the solvates in the diluent.
