STUDY OF HYPERFRAGMENTS PRODUCED IN 800 Mev/c K$sup -$ INTERACTIONS. I. MESONIC DECAYS

Mesic decays (92) of the hypernuclei obtained from 26,600 k/sup -/ stars at 800 Mev/c are analyzed. Fifty-two events are uniquely identified, including one e (as Fe/sup 59 /sup +/ decay of in each case). He/sup 4/ and 21 out of 36 ambiguous events are given a most probable interpretation; 4 decays in flight are observed. The ratios of e (as Fe/sup 59 /sup -/ recoil decays to all e (as Fe/ sup 59 /sup /decay modes for in each case). H/sup 3/ and in each case). H/sup 4/ seem to agree with spin assignments of 1/2 and 0, respectively. The production mechanism of the hypernuclei from the heavier nuclei of the emulsion is also discussed. (auth)
