IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO METHODS OF TREATING CARBONS AND INDUSTRIAL GRAPHITE FOR THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4694382
A method for treating carbons and industrial graphites is presented in which the materials are impregnated by a resol formo-phenolic resin whose resistance to chemical agents is increased by condensation and polymerization in situ with furfuryl alcohol or furfuryl aldehyde. The carbons and graphites are carbonized at a temperature that progressively increases by 3 deg C per hour to 1200 deg C. The carbons and graphites are packed with absorbent cotton, placed in coal dust or finely ground coke, and baked. The end products are very resistant to high temperatures and to corrosion by chemical agents and are impervious to gases and liquids. (C.E.S.)
