ENDOLYMPHATIC RADIOTHERAPY: TECHNICAL AND PHYSICOBIOLOGICAL ASPECTS (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Radiologia Medica (Italy)
OSTI ID:4694319
The physical and biological bases of radiotherapy of the lymph nodes by means of endolymphatic administration of Lipiodol F tagged with I/sup 131/ are discussed. After giving the reasons which suggested the use of this preparation and the techniques adopted to reduce irradiation of the operators to a minimum, the methods used for measuring the radioactivity in order to estimate the concentrations reached by the radionuclide in the various foci, organs, and body as a whole, and also the dose absorbed are discussed. It was established that administering activities of the order of 10 to 15 mc, high foci doses can be reached in the foci without the body absorbing dangerous doses. The reduction in volume of the lymph nodes was marked and no changes of the hematic crasis or hepatic function was seen in the patients treated. (auth)
