Dose distribution in healthy lymph nodes and in lymph nodes affected by metastases after endolymphatic therapy with radionuclides. II. Investigation on rabbits with phosphorous-32-tri-n-octyl phosphate and iodine-125 triolein in Lipiodol UF (in German)

An endolymphatic therapy with radioisotopes is performed on rabbits with phosphorus-32-labeled-tri-N-octyl-phosphate in Lipiodol and with iodine-125- labeled-triolein in Lipiodol. This therapy is applied equally to 9 healthy animals and to 19 animals with metastases in the lymph nodes. The VX/sub 2/- tumor on rabbits was chosen as the experimental tumor. The evaluation was performed histologically and by film dosimetry. In normal lymph nodes the preradiation after endolymphatic therapy is relatively equal. In metastatically alterated lymph nodes the dose preradiation after endolymphatic therapy is relatively equal. In metastatically alterated lymph nodes the dose distribution is much less favorable. By iodine-125 therapy a significantly better perradiation of metastatically altered lymph nodes can be obtained than with phosphorus-32 therapy. If the metastases are larger the activity uptake in the lymph nodes is so irregular that the endolymphatic therapy is not successful. Only micrometastases seem to be accessible to endolymphatic therapy. The size of metastases is limited by their demonstrability in the lymphogramm. Metastases which can be visualized in the lymphogram should be additionally treated by surgical or radiotherapeutic measures, if curative therapy is intended. (GE)
