In a continuation of the measurements made in Jassy starting in 1958 on the artificial activity of the atmosphere, the results of these measurements for 1960 are reported. The method used includes the collection of daily samples in polyethylene pots with water, evaporation to dryness, calcination of the solid residues, and measurement of the BETA activity. Several activity peaks caused by the French nuclear explosions in the Sahara and a general rise of long-lived fission products in the spring and summer months were observed. By the end of the year the artificial activity of the atmosphere had decreased to a mean level of 20 to 30 C/m/sup 2/. The external gamma dose to the population was calculated on the basis of the daily activity levels. From January 1, 1959, to December 31, 1960, the total dose was 14 mr/30years. (auth)
