DEVICE FOR THE HANDLING OF FUEL ELEMENTS OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4694262
The top shield of the reactor is provided with a system of two rotating plugs, one of which is provided with an access hole which, by the rotation of the plugs, can be brought into alignment with any fuel element of the reactor. The inner plug houses a hoisting winch placed in the upper porH03 H02tion of the access hole and mounted on a shielding plug occupying the remaining portion of that access hdie. This shielding plug is extended at its bottom by a tube reaching down to the top of the reactor core, while the cable of the hoisting winch passes through a channel system in the shielding plug and supports at its lower end a grip adapted to couple with the handling head of a fuel element. This channel system comprises pulleys for the cable following a passage changing its direction at each pulley and a liquid seal in order to ensure the fluid tightness of the cable passage. Preferably, this liquid seal is of a construction allowing its disassembly without any liquid losses. (IIB)
