CATHODIC PROCESSES DURING THE DEPOSITION OF HAFNIUM FROM CHLORIDE AND FLUORIDE-CHLORIDE MELTS

Cathodic polarization at D = 10/sup -4/ to 2 amp/cm/sup 2/ and 700 to 900 un. Concent 85% C was studied during electrolysis of chloride and chloride- fluoride melts containing Hf. Differing from Zr deposition, Hf deposition is accompanied by lesser residual currents. The introduction of F anions to the melt displaces the potential of Hf separation toward more negative values and increases concentration polarization, in particular, for the case of molar ratio STAF!/STAHf! = 6.
