Study of Superconducting Nb$sub 3$Sn Coils; ETUDE DE BOBINAGES SUPRA-CONDUCTEURS EN Nb$sub 3$Sn

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4693941

Composite superconducting Nb/sub 3/Sn wires with a diameter of 0.5 mm and a length of about 100 m were made, and Hc--Ic diagrams were plotted up to fields of 80 kgauss for short lengths. Two solenoids producing fields of about 20 kgauss were studied. Nb/sub 3/Sn solenoids, as opposed to those of Nb--Zr or Nb--Ti, appear to have a predictable behavior. Solenoids with less insulation produced stronger fields than heavily insulated solenoids. (auth)
