Neutron irradiations have been made in Sweden regularly in the R-1 reactor since 1955. Production of chemically processed material is to be started in 1963. Most of the radioisotopes produced were short-lived ones and were used principally for research with about 20% going to industrial development and applications. The irradiated materials are standardized and an absolute determination of the activity in solutions is made using all available methods to give the highest accuracy. Swedish industry has used radioisotopes for process and quality control and in research and analysis. Typical applications are indicated. (J.S.R.)
