The role of radioisotopes in research, industry, and medicine is indicnted briefly. The three principal methods of producing radioisotopes--- neutron irradiation in reactors, charged particle irradiation in accelerators, and recovery of fission products---are described and illustrated. Their economic importance is shown and discussed, principally with respect to Belgium. (J.S.R.)
