Protactinium-236

Protactinium-236 was prepared by mixing 0.8 mg uranyl nitrate with about 40 mg fine graphite powder and bombarding for 5 min by a 26 Mev internal deuteron beam. On the basis of the cross section, which was calculated to be roughly of the order of 100 mu b from the reaction U 238(d, alpha ) Pa236 the half life of Pa236 was assigned as 12 min. The Curie plot and decay curve of Pa238 is illustrated.
