AUTORADIOGRAPHY OF WOOD SPECIMENS FROM THE REGION AFFECTED BY THE FALL OF THE TUNGUS METEORITE (in Russian)
Samples taken from trees growing in the impact area of the 1908 Tungus meteorite were subjected to autoradiographic analysis in order to confirm or disprove statements made in several publications since 1959 that the radioactivity of the vegetation of the area continues to increase. The samples, obtained from the material brought back by the 1958 and 1960 expeditions of the Academy and its Siberian Branch, were dried, polished, and placed on Agfa x-ray film for 7 months. Examination of the autoradiograms revealed no increase of the radioactivity of the pine, spruce, and larch specimens since 1908; to the contrary, a certain decrease was noted in the spruce samples. During the past few years the activity seems to increase but this is attributed to fallout. (TTT)
