PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS OF LOSS OF POWER ACCIDENT. HAZARDS ANALYSIS
The minimum flow of helium at normal reactoroperating pressure required to cool the EGCR following a complete power failure is estimated and a detailed method for definitive determination of this flow using an analog computer to enable consideration of transients associated with the accident is proposed. The minimum required flow is defined as that flow that will prevent fuelelement failures as a result of excessive temperatures and will prevent over-heating the reactor-vessel temperature barrier, the reactor outlet-coolant piping, and the steam generators. Results indicate that natural circulation coolant flow rates will not adequately cool the EGCR following a loss-of-power accident and that the estimated flow required following the loss-of-power accident is 5% of full-power flow. This flow must be supplied within 2.0 minutes after a complete power failure. (auth)
