FUEL ARRANGEMENTS FOR USE IN NUCLEAR REACTORS HAVING VERTICAL CHANNELS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4692033
A patented fuel arrangement for reactors with vertical channels is described. Each tubular fuel siug is supported on a bracket on the end of an elongated rod passing through the slug. A multiplicity of rods and brackets are vertically superimposed on one another in every channel of the reactor. Each rod and bracket combination supports those located above it and is supported by those located under it. The top of each fuel slug does not touch the bracket immediately above it, so no load is transmitted from the bracket to the slug. With this arrangement, it is possible to superimpose a large number of fuel slugs without crushing the ones at the bottom of the channel. Details of the design of the rods and brackets are described and illustrated. (M.P.G.)
