IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO SYSTEMS FOR DETERMINING THE RADIO-ACTIVITY OF GAS SOLS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4691376

A system for determining the radioactivity of aerosols is patented, in which the dispersed components in the gas are separated, and the intensity of alpha and BETA radiation emanating from the separated components is determined. Prior to detection, the radiation passes through thin sheets of material, the absorptive capacities of which are such that the ratio between detected alpha particles and detected BETA particles for the daughter products of Rn/sup 222/ equals that for the daughter products of Rn/sup 220/. If the ratio between detected alpha particles and detected BETA particles is different, contamination is present. (M.P.G.)
