Dosimetry studies were conducted preliminary to the use of a method employing Co/sup 60/ external irradiation without internal implantation of Ra for the treatment of cancer of the uterine cervix. Because of the high depth doses now possible with Co/sup 60/ therapy, it is suggested that Ra treatment can be eliminated. Isodose diagrams were prepared by use of a paraffin phantom to simulate abdominal structures. The diagrams are illustrated for various combination of fields of irradiation. Techniques for localizing the tumor for proper orientation of the patient in the fields are also described. (H.H.D.)
