ACTIVATION ANALYSIS OF SODIUM AND POTASSIUM IN BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Proc. Japan Conf. Radioisotopes
OSTI ID:4690604
The sodium and potassium contents of unfertilized and fertilized eggs of sea-urchin were estimated by activation analysis. The dry matter of the eggs was ashed (390-400 deg C) and irradiated in JRR-I reactor (neutron flux; 3 x 10/sup 11/ n/cm/sup 2/ sec, 2--4 hr). Na/sup 24/ and K/sup 42/ in the irradi ated sample were separated. The respective amounts of sodium and of potassium were determined by comparison of gamma-ray spectrograms of standard samples. In the unfertilized eggs, the concentration of sodium was very iow, being approximateiy ten per cent of potassium. In the case of fertilized eggs, both ions increased. The increase of sodium was greater than that of potassium, and the ratio of sodium to potassium was changed from 11.2 to 8.2. (JAIF)
