Studies were made on the separation of radioactive droplets by a plate column during the evaporation of radioactive wastes, and it was found that droplets entrained in the evaporating vapor or formed on trays and carried by the vapor are not completely eliminated at trays above, but that some of them pass through the trays. The results of the studies on the effects of the number of trays, the reflux ratio, the quantity of the entraned droplets, and the probability of their passing through a tray on the decontamination factor, (D.F.), are reported, along with the method of evaluating the number of trays required for a prescribed (D.F.), given a reflux ratio, a quantity of entrained droplets, and a probability of their passing through.
