DETERMINATION OF THE DIFFUSION PARAMETERS OF THERMAL NEUTRONS IN POISONED WATER (in Rumanian)

The diffusion parameters of thermal neutrons in H/sub 2/O highly poisoned with B (nuclear absorption cross section follows the 1/v law) and in H/ sub 2/O slightly poisoned with Cd (absorption cross section does not follow the 1/ v law) were measured. In the two cases, it was established that the diffusion length L for thermal neutrons decreases greatly with the increase of the absorber concentration in the H/sub 2/O. A linear variation of the values l/L/sup 2/ as a function of the relative concentration of the absorber was obtained, within the measurement limits, even for the case of very strong poisoning ( SIGMA (B) = 3.73 SIGMA (H)).
