THE MOSSBAUER EFFECT IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS

A brief review is given on data relating to the Mossbauer effect in solid-state physics with emphasis placed on poirt defects. The Lamb-Mossbauer factor f, the fractional lntensity of the Mossbauer line, is discussed. It is shown that information regarding anharmonic lattice forces may be obtained from the temperature variation of the LambMossbauer factor for high temperatures. For substitutional point defects, information regarding the exact mature of the impurity binding may be obtained from a study of the velocity spectrum and the Lamb-Mossbauer factor. (R.E.U.)
