CANDU TO UNDERSELL COAL BY 1 MILL IN '70s

Journal Article · · Canadian Nuclear Technology (Canada) Superseded by Can. Res. Dev.
OSTI ID:4686177
The probable future development of D/sub 2/O-moderated nuclear power plants in the middle 1970s is discussed, and the capital and operating costs of the plants are forecasted. Bulk boiling at the outlet of fuel channels will increase the efficiency, and other possible ways for cost reduction and improvement in a 450-Mw(e) D/sub 2/O plant are considered. It is concluded that nuclear power will cost 4.84 mills/kwh compared to 5.80 mills/kwh for coal-fired units, by 1973 (D.L.C.)
