AN INSTALLED FAST NEUTRON AND GAMMA HEALTH INSTRUMENTATION AND SHUTDOWN CONTROL SYSTEM FOR NIMROD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4685886
The health instrumentation and shutdown control system to be used as part of the 7-Bev proton synchrotron machine (Nimrod) are described. Twin ion chamber detectors are used to measure dose and/or dose-rate from mixed neutron and gamma radiations and an indication of dose and dose-rate can be provided near the detectors and in a central control room. The shutdown control channel comprises equipment for the measurement of radiation dose per pulse with provision for initiating immediate shutdown of the machine should the dose per pulse exceed a pre-set value.
