Incorporation of trivalent cerium into certain lithium-aluminosilicate glasses produces glasses that scintillate in response to gamma rays and neutrons. Li/sub 2/O, Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, Ce/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and SiO/sub 2/ are used in specified compositions to give pulse heights of 4 to 14% of the pulse height of a NaI(Tl) crystal. (D.C.W.)
