Studies of plutonium(IV) extraction from nitric acid solutions by oxygen- containing agents (diethyl and di-nbutyl ether, diethylketone, methyl-n-butyl ketone, methylisobutyl ketone, n-butylformate, ethyl acetate, n-butyl acetate and benzaldehyde) without salting-out agents showed that diethyl ether is a most effective extraction with distribution coefficient 11.5 at equilibrium nitric acid concentration 5.0 and 3.4M in aqueous and organic phases respectively. Spectrophotometric and direct organic phase analysis indicated that Pu(IV) is extracted as oxonium compound H/sub 2/STAPu(NO/sub 3/)/sub 6/!. (R.V.J.)
