To determine small quantities of Th (down to 10/sup -4/ g) in extracts of some minerals, a method based on the recording of fragments from the fission of Th nuclei during irradiation by neutrons from a Ra-- Be source was used. Thorium is removed from solution by co-precipitation with Ce oxaiate and the precipitate is placed in an ionization chamber. It is then irradiated with a beam of fast neutrons and a number of fission events is recorded.
