THE 936 AND 1261 kev RESONANCES IN THE $sup 27$Al(p,$gamma$$)$$sup 28$Si REACTION AND THE PROPERTIES OF THE 6.88 Mev DOUBLET STATE IN $sup 28$Si
Gamma-ray spectra, branching ratios, and gamma-ray yields were measured for the resonances at 936 and 1261 kev in the Al/sup 27/(p. gamma )Si/sup 28/ reaction. Information on the decay of one of the two excited states at 6.88 Mev in Si/sup 28/ is obtained. The analysis of angular correlation and distribution measurements on prominent cascades leads to spin assignments J/sup pi / = 3/sup - / for the two resonant levels at 12.48 and 12.80 Mev excitation energy. A spin J = 2 is indicated for the 6.88-Mev excited state decaying with a strong ground state transition The experimental evidence suggests a controversial odd parity assignment to the same 6.88-Mev state. The gamma -transition from the 12.80 resonant level to the first excited state of Si/sup 28/ at 1.78 Mev, shows a clear M2/E1 multipole mixing. The M2 transition strength is found to be close to the Weisskopf estimate. (auth)
