ELECTRON CURRENT PULSE MONITOR FOR LINEAR ACCELERATORS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
A pickup loop suitably mounted inside the terminal drift tube of an electron linear accelerator receives an induced voltage pulse for each passage of an electron bunch without intercepting the beam. The resulting signal is detected in an external electrical network which may be arranged to present at its output terminals a voltage proportional to either the average pulse current or its integral over the pulse interval. Signal rise-time for current pulse operation is less than 0.4 mu sec and typical sensitivity is 4.5 v/a. The monitor output is essentially electron-energy-independent although other related accelerator beam parameters affect the response slightly. (auth)
