IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO STEAM GENERATING PLANT

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4684166
A nozzle to expand superheated steam in a steamgenerating plant is patented. The nozzle has a large and a small outlet orifice. The smaller orifice is in permanertly open communication with the superheated steam from the heat exchanger. Flow to the larger orifice is controlled by a valve between the nozzle and the heat exchanger. The design of the nozzle is described in detail. Advantages of the design include maintenance of an adequate pumping effect even at low steam flow conditions, straightening the flow/pressure rise chararacterstic at low flows, and, when the heater is a nuclear reactor, maintenance of a small flow of steam through the reactor when it is shut down and cooling.
