IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO STEAM GENERATING PLANT

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4667445
A steam-generating plant consisting of two steam generators, a common heater to superheat the steam, and a feed-water system is patented. Part of the superheated steam is fed to the generators to evaporate water and to superheat steam, and the other part is fed to one or more locations of use. The feed-water system consists of one normally operative feed-water pump, which delivers to the 2 generators in parallel and receives condensate from the location of use. Each generator has an associated thermopump, in which the superheated steam is expanded through a sonic or supersonic nozzle and then mixed with the steam used for heating purposes in the generator. Methods for controlling the pressure at the inlet of the feed-water pump are provided. Additional features of the invention are described, and one form of steam generating plant embodying the improvements and using a steam-cooled nuclear reactor as the heat source is discussed in detail.
